July 4, Independence Day Dinner

07-04

Iced Pimiento Consomme
Creamed Sweetbreads in Timbale Cases
Cold Sliced Boiled Ham
Scrub Potatoes
Dinner Rolls
Asparagus Salad, French Dressing
Strawberry Bomb
Grandma’s Pound Cakes
*Fruit Punch

In 1914 July 4 was a Saturday.

I haven’t found a recipe for the Strawberry Bomb. A bomb is a moulded ice cream with an outer shell of one flavor and an inner filling of a different one. I assume that one of them was strawberry. : )

Savory Potatoes
Asparagus on Toast
*Carlton Salad
Cheese Straws
Strawberry Mousse
Lady Fingers

In 1914 June 21 was a Sunday.

I didn’t find a specific recipe for curried chicken fricassee. If I had to guess, add a little curry to the sauce.

The mousse is our 7th strawberry dessert this month

June 18

06-18
*Pecan Nut Loaf, White Sauce

In 1914 June 18 was a Thursday. Another meatless meal!

The Pecan Nut Loaf is more of a mashed potato loaf with pecans on top.

June 15

06-15
Appledore Soup
Crisp Crackers
French Fried Potatoes
*Corn Toast
Buttered Asparagus
Bread and Butter Pudding, Roxbury Sauce

In 1914 June 15 was a Monday. Instead of leftovers from Sunday’s roast, because there wasn’t one, we have a meatless meal.

Appledore Soup is just potato soup with ketchup stirred into it. This is a pretty starchy meal, except for the asparagus.

Roxbury is a part of Boston. There’s also a recipe for Cambridge Sauce, which is the next city over, across the river.

Today is the day Scratch gave me this box of menus and recipes as an anniversary gift. Little did he know that it would launch this project.

06-05
Broiled Mackerel
Potatoes à la Maître d’Hôtel
Asparagus on Toast
Cheese Sandwiches

*Lemon Cream Sherbet

In 1914 June 5 was a Friday. Look at that… fish!

I am guessing that Lettuce and Radish Mayonnaise is Lettuce and Radish Salad with Mayonnaise Dressing instead of French.
